The party then visited the lake at Ramsey for Raft Building which they sailed to and around a marker bouy and back to the banks of the lake. We returned the centre for a Barbeque tea followed by evening activities. The day ended with Buns to celebrate Rohan's 11th Birthday.

We all awoke to a beautiful sunny morning. After our breakfast we held a quick meeting of each group to explain their days activities and what clothing and equipment they required. Groups 1 and 2 departed by minibus with canoes on the trailer behind for an adventure trip down the River Esk from Ruswarp to Whitby. They all had a fantastic day learing canoeing skills and ended our day in Whitby Harbour. Group 3 visited Runswick Bay for a Seashore day which included rock pooling, fossil hunting and a long cliff top walk back to East Barnby. They all returned with tired legs !! Group 4 travelled to near Hutton le Hole for their climbing day. They all had a wonderful expereince climbing up an old Limestone Quarry. On their way back they had a special stop for an Ice Cream in Hutton le Hole. The day ended after dinner with an Orienteering exercise around the centre.

After arriving at East Barnby the school party were given a quick talk then allocated to their "dorms". We then had our lunch followed by equipment distribution for the afternoon activities.
Groups 1 and 2 were taken by minibus to Saltburn for body board surfing in the North Sea. All the childen wore wet suits, which kept us nice and warm in the cool water. Every child succeeded in Body Boarding with Mrs Brook taking pictures and Mr Smith taking the plunge.
Groups 3 and 4 were issued with waterproof clothing and went Beck Scrambling. They had a great time all returning completely soaked.
After quick showers we all met up for dinner. The evening activity was a long walk - about 3 miles - which tired out the children before bed. We had a short meeting at the end of the day and all the children agreed they had enjoyed their first day's experiences.
The day ended with the presentation of the winning Hoodie design to Mia Gelder. We have lots of pictures which we hope to put on the website tomorrow evening.
Looking forward to day 2, which has a good weather forecast.

At last we awake to a wonderful sunny morning. Today two groups visited the lake at Ramsay for all their water based activities whilst the other two groups travelled by tram to Dhoon Glen to collect wood for their fires to cook their own appetising lunch. Here are a few photos of them in action.
Phone contact with the school trip today reports that the somewhat elusive sun is now shining! Here are a few shots of todays action packed activities.
Fresh from Monday night's activities the children woke up raring to go. After a hearty breakfast the groups were set up for an action packed day. Two groups visited the lake in Ramsay to conquer water sports. There was a full programme including sailing, kayaking, canoeing and power boat rides. With a continuing strong breeze the sailing boats were skippered by the adventure centre staff and crewed expertly, of course, by the pupils. The two other groups visited Ballaglass Glen - you can read more about the Glen here - for an Orienteering experience and then returned to the Venture Centre for more fun packed abseiling and biking. In the evening after "Wide Game" (you will have to ask your child) we announced the winner of the T shirt competition. Below are the groups sporting their new T shirts. Now do you know who the winner of the design a T shirt competition is?
After a breezy crossing on the Seacat we arrived at The Venture Centre for 3.45pm - click on the link to learn more about The Venture Centre.
First things first and the children were allocated to their dormitories in the new wing (not in the picture) to leave their bags. After the all important briefing they then went for an escorted walk down to the beach for lungfuls of Isle of Man fresh air before dinner. Dinner devoured and it was straight down to activities. The trip party was divided into four groups to take part in abseiling, the assault course, air rifle shooting and archery. So after a long day it was then heads down to sleep (after lots of covert chatting of course!) to be ready for Day 2. |
