Half Term is week commencing 27th May.  Back to school on 3rd June.

Headteacher's Welcome.

A very warm welcome to all who visit our web site.  We hope you find it informative and helps you in your efforts to support your child through school.

A brief history of our school :-  The Holy Spirit Primary School in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire opened in 1968 and continues a tradition of Catholic Education in the town. Bishop Robert Cornthwaite of Beverley established the first Catholic Parish in Heckmondwike in 1871 and Fr Stephen Dolan was to be the first Parish Priest celebrating Masses from a rented room in a house in Brighton Terrace.

It wasn't until 1873 that the first Chapel and school were opened on Darley Street.  Saint Patrick's School was built on a plot of land purchased for the princely sum of £374.  It was here that the Catholics of Heckmondwike worshipped and were educated until the opening of our present Church in 1915 and school in 1968.  The original Chapel and School were sold to the RAFA club in 1970.  The building had served the Catholic community of Heckmondwike well and laid the foundations for the establishment of a Catholic education in Heckmondwike.  1968 was to be the beginning of a new era and a renaming of the school as The Holy Spirit School.

All in school today hope we play our part in providing a high quality education for both the Catholic Community in Heckmondwike West Yorkshire and those of other denominations who want to learn in a Christian environment.  All we do is underpinned by our faith and the teachings of the Church.  We have endeavoured to encapsulate all that we are about in our Mission Statement.

We hope that you enjoy our primary school web site and that your children enjoy their time with us and fulfil their full potential spiritually, socially and academically.
